Sandy Recovery News

As the Jersey Shore recovers from the effects of Sandy, we at Conover Beyer are here to help. Below is information that may assist in your efforts to recoup losses, repair or rebuild damaged property, or figure out the next steps in your own recovery process:

Flood Insurance - Information on impending changes and rebuilding:

For answers to most flood hazard mapping questions, contact a FEMA Map Specialist at the FEMA Map Assistance Center at 1-877-336-2627.

FIRMS - Flood Insurance Rate Maps: www.msc.fema.gov

ABFE's - Advisory Base Flood Elevation maps: www.region2coastal.com

ICC - Increased Cost of Compliance: residents who need to raise their homes to comply with the new ABFE's may qualify for up to $30,000 to raise their homes. Residents must meet three criteria:

  • Substantially damaged
  • in a flood zone
  • have flood insurance

For a home to be considered substantially damaged the cost of repairs to the home must be at least 50% of the assessed value of the structure.

HMGP - Hazard Mitigation Grant Program: Interested applicants should complete a notice of intent. Grants will probably take 18 months or more so FEMA encourages folks to find other alternatives if at all possible.
